About Winter Walking Ice Cleats

Winter Walking is the largest manufacturer of Ice Cleats in North America. Winter Walking has 40 years of experience manufacturing industry-leading Ice Cleats used by some of the largest companies in the United States and Canada. Their Ice Cleats have revolutionary new, patented features that deliver unmatched traction on all slippery winter surfaces.

Winter Walking knows that one Ice Cleat design does not suit the needs of all users. Therefore, each Winter Walking Ice Cleat is specifically engineered for particular people, employees, and job functions. Unlike recreational Ice Cleats manufacturers' focus on keeping prices low, Winter Walking emphasizes quality, performance, reliability, and keeping you safe.

On their website, Winter Walking states that their Ice Cleats are not designed for walking the dog or shoveling the driveway. Instead, they claim their Heavy Duty Ice Cleats are designed to last the entire or several seasons and withstand the tough, day-in-day-out usage in the harshest conditions found in industry and commerce. I respect and agree with Winter Walking's ideas 99.99% of the time. However, based on my 16 years of experience selling Ice Cleats, I emphatically disagree with that statement. Here's why.

The consequences of an injury from falling on ice can be and life-changing and catastrophic both physically and financially. No Ice Cleat can guarantee you won't slip of ice and packed snow. However, no recreational Ice Cleats can minimize your risk of injury as well as professional, heavy-duty Ice Cleats.

Winter Walking Heel-Only Strap-On Ice Cleats
Heel-Only Strap-On Ice Cleats

Use strap-on heel cleats when full-size Ice Cleats are not an option. Situations prohibiting full-size Ice Cleats include
  • compliance with company safety directives prohibiting wearing anything on footwear that might somehow inhibit operating foot controls while driving;
  • requiring a fully exposed defined heel on shoes and boots to make climbing ladders safer; and
  • reducing the risk of slipping off foot rests while operating snowmobiles and ATVs or pedals while biking on snow and ice.

Why Winter Walking Professional-Quality Ice Cleats Keep You Safer

Professional Quality Ice Cleats
  • have better-engineered, more durable tungsten carbide aggressive spikes to penetrated and grip the ice;
  • well-distributed spikes that ensure that at least one spike makes contact with the ground especially on rough ice;
  • Heel Spikes and spikes positioned at the front of the Ice Cleats that allow you to walk naturally;
  • aggressive, self-cleaning treads for traction on unpacked snow and to ensure that snow and debris don't cake up under the Ice Cleats and prevent the spikes from contacting the ice;
  • strong, professionally-designed straps that keep the Ice Cleats on, and aligned on, your footwear; and
  • features like Dual Pull Tabs and Dual Density construction that make Winter Walking Ice Cleats easier to put on and take off than competing Ice Cleats.

Using the examples Winter Walking mentioned of walking the dog or shoveling the driveway, isn't it important that

  • Well-designed and positioned spikes are there to grab the ice as the dog tugs on the leash or as you push on the snow shovel especially downhill?
  • Ice Cleats stay on your boots and shoes and not that you lose one when you need it most?

We're not talking about a major difference in price and the professional Ice Cleats will last several seasons instead of a few weeks, months, or in some cases days.

Lastly, Winter Walking has ultra-convenient Ice Cleats with Transitional Traction that you can safely wear on most indoor floors and while driving. Many people and employees can leave them on all day.

Crucial Ice Cleats Sizing Tips

  1. You can go by the shoe sizes. However, the actual size of the shoe or boot can vary significantly for the same foot size. So option two below is a better way to select the correct size.
    (OR)
  2. Measure the length of your shoe or boot. Measure the bottom from the tip of the sole to the base of the heel. Measure on "the flat", don't wrap around. We want the length. Then find the size on the sizing chart with the Footwear Length Range that spans the length of your footwear. Measure carefully. Measure twice. Our goal is to get you the right size on the first try to make you as safe as possible as soon as possible.
Ice Cleats Sizes are Unisex that fit men's and women's shoes and boots according to the sizing charts.
Always try your Ice Grips on as soon as you receive them for two reasons.
  1. You want to be ready for the bad weather. Don't wait until the ice is on the ground to find out you need a size exchange.
  2. I can't do free size exchanges for Ice Cleats that have been used because I can't resell them.
FAQs

What should I do if the length of my shoe or boot is extremely close to the breakpoint of a size range? Should I choose the next larger size? For example, assume the length of your boot or shoe is just under 12½". You look at the specific Size Chart for Ice Cleats you're buying. Assume for this example the Medium has size range of 11½" to < 12½" and a Large is 12½" to < 13". For regular shoes and work shoes, stick with the smaller of the two sizes your considering. If you're planning to use your Ice Grips on heavier winter boots, choose the bigger size.

I'm planning to use the Ice Cleats on both my shoes and boots. But they're different lengths. What should I do?

If the difference in length is small, order the size for the larger boots. Purchase the optional Ankle Strap to use when you use the Ice Grips on your shoes. The ankle strap will make sure they stay on. If the difference in length is significant, you may need two sizes of Ice Cleats. That's because you want the Ice Cleats to be snug, so they not only stay on your footwear but also stay aligned.

I have a large company. There's no way I can measure everyone's footwear.

I understand. Go by shoe sizes. I'll be happy to exchange sizes later on. However, please make sure you haven't used the Ice Cleats outdoors.

Is the measuring technique 100% accurate?

Nope. It's accurate most of the time. Measuring is far superior to go by shoe size.
Ice Cleat Ankle Straps
Winter Walking Ice Cleats fit securely on most shoes and boots. Most people do not need or use the Ankle Strap. However, Ankle Straps add an additional level of comfort knowing your Ice Cleats will stay on your footwear. It's more critical to consider Ankle Straps if
