Ankle straps add a second point of hold. Most people don't need them, but they help on bulky boots and in deep snow.
Winter Walking designed SPARE SPIKE™ for the people who don't need a heavy-duty work cleat but still need to get across the ice safely. It's lighter-duty, but well designed, easy to use, and built from quality materials that will last for years. It's affordable enough to protect everyone in your organization, not just the crews outdoors.
Choose something else if you go in and out of buildings all day (SPARE SPIKE must come off indoors; see Winter Walking LOW-PRO), or if you work outdoors all day and want the most aggressive grip (see Winter Walking HIGH-PRO).

Losing a stud weakens the grip of the whole cleat. SPARE SPIKE™ gets its name from the extra stud built into the top of the toe on each cleat, so every pair carries two spares. If you ever lose a stud, you can replace it on the spot, with no special tools. It's the kind of detail that sets Winter Walking apart.
Many ice cleats in this price range only help on ice and packed snow. SPARE SPIKE™ also keeps you safer in deeper snow, slush, and even mud, because:
Less than 4 oz per foot; the largest pair weighs about 8 oz. The compact, foldable design means you can carry them when you're not wearing them.
I don't recommend high heels on ice, period. But in a pinch, you can cut SPARE SPIKE™ along its patented Trim Line™ so it fits heeled shoes and boots. Cutting it means you can't use it on flat footwear again, but it costs far less than a fall.
No. Take them off before you go inside. The sharp 2mm studs can damage floors, and they can be slippery on hard, smooth surfaces that aren't covered in ice or snow. If you need cleats you can keep on indoors, see Winter Walking LOW-PRO.
Winter Walking says yes: the design doesn't interfere with the pedals, and they're rated "Good" for driving. Ultimately it is up to you, or your safety manager, to decide whether that is acceptable for your vehicle and your job.
Use the spare. Each cleat carries an extra stud on the toe, so you can repair it on the spot without tools. To restock, order the Replacement Spike Kit JD510-SK (6 studs, fits all sizes) from the buy box on this page.
The size chart is based on regular shoes and sneakers. If you'll wear SPARE SPIKE™ over heavy boots, choose the next bigger size. Not sure? Call me at 610-670-2549, and remember size exchanges are free.
SPARE SPIKE™ is Winter Walking's lighter-duty, lower-cost cleat for everyday and occasional use. It has 16 replaceable studs. LOW-PRO and HIGH-PRO are professional-grade cleats with 26 permanent studs and heel spikes, built for people who wear them all day at work. LOW-PRO can also be worn on most indoor floors.
Therefore, if you find a lower DELIVERED PRICE from a legitimate online store (not auction sites) selling authentic, new Winter Walking Ice Cleats, I'll match or better that price.
No store works harder than we do to get ice cleats sizing right on the first try. If you measure your footwear as I advise you to do in my Sizing Tips, Size Exchanges are rare. However, when Size Exchanges are necessary
The last thing I want is for you to be disappointed in your purchase or feel that I mislead you or treated you unfairly. So, in the unlikely event you're not totally satisfied with your ice cleats or shoe traction devices purchased from me, I'll refund your money and pay for the return freight. Call me at 610-670-2549.
My satisfaction guarantee is unconditional. However, I'll ask you why you're not satisfied because I want to know if
